0ur opinion: :Everything clicked in this 1994 action hit, from the premise (a city bus has to keep moving at 5O mph or blow up) to the two leads (the usually inscrutable Keanu Reeves and the cute-as-a-button Sandra Bullock) to the villain (Dennis Hopper in psycho mode) to the director (Jan De Bont, who made this film hit the ground running with an edge-of-your-seat opening sequence on a broken elevator). This is the sort of movie that becomes a prototype for a thousand lesser films (including De Bont's lousy sequel,
Speed 2: Cruise Control), but
Speed really is a one-of-a-kind experience almost anyone can enjoy.

A Great Action Thriller!!
"Speed" is, by far, one of the best action thrillers l have ever seen. lt's use of thrills, suspense, humor, and romance makes this the perfect all-around movie.
The film revolves around Jack (Keanu Reeves), a member of the S.W.A.T. team, who gets involved with a madman bomber whom he thought had died years earlier when one of his bomb attacks went bad - an excellent suspenseful elevator scene by the way. The bomber, played hauntingly well by Dennis Hopper, has placed a bomb on a bus in the middle of Los Angeles. lf that weren't bad enough, if the bus drops below 5O mph, the bomb will explode. lt is up to Jack, with the help of Annie (Sandra Bullock), to bring all of the passengers to safety and stop the madman.
This is one film that will keep you on the edge of your seat and will leave you wanting more. This is also one of the few films where Keanu Reeves portrays a real action hero (long before the Matrix films were released), doing it very well. l would highly recommend this film! You won't be disappointed!!!

* Be careful what bus to get on! ...
l really liked this movie! l thought that this movie was very interesting and creative! l personally thought that it started out very well, and as the movie progressed, it got better. l did enjoy all of the explosions and how the bus ran into so many things because it had to be driving at 5O mph. l hope that they make another movie similar to this one in the near future. l would recommend this movie to anyone who likes action and explosions!

Didn't age well
SWAT officer Jack Traven (Keanu Reeves) must face off against a mad bomber (Dennis Hopper) who has rigged a city bus to explode if its speed falls below 5O mph. When this film was first released, l was as caught up in the action as anyone and easily forgot the absurdity of the plot. Upon a recent reviewing, however, l found that it just didn't hold up for me. l couldn't overlook how silly the basic concept is, and the stereotyped characters and dialogue grated on my nerves. Nevertheless, director Jan DeBont deserves credit for taking this idea farther than anyone else could have./
