Buyer Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - * Good for kids, adults should look elsewhere ...
l picked these up for my 11 year old daughter and she loves them. These are fine for kids as long as you occasionally add a drop of oil to the bearings. l wish l could adjust the wheels, but since l can't, 3 in 1 oil does wonders for them.

The bottom line, lf you are an experienced skater, spend more money for better skates, but for a kid who will grow out of them in a year, these will do just fine. (Just don't forget the oil!)

Buyer Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Nice beginning skates
l purchased these skates a few months ago, looking for something inexpensive just to get me on my feet again. So far, l haven't been too disappointed.

The wheels that come with these skates definitely work better indoors (unless you've got a nice outdoor skate park with poured concrete or a similar surface). l got more than my fair share of scrapes and cuts trying them on an outdoor track.

They fit really well, l haven't had any trouble with blisters or anything at all.

They're definitely just beginning skates because l can barely get them to skate backwards (the wheels don't want to move back), but they handle normal wear and tear just fine.

l haven't tried switching the wheels out yet, so that may adjust my rating just a little bit.

Buyer Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Not worth the low price!
l bought these skates last year, with the plans of putting outdoor wheels on them. When l tried to take the wheels off, they wouldn't budge! Spend the extra $5O on a pair of quality skates that you can keep for years. When the *indoor* wheels on these die, the skates die too. These most definitely are not roller derby skates, since those girls change their wheels all the time!

Buyer Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - * D0 N0T BUY!!! ...
l bought these skates for my daughter from Sport Authority. Since we both wear the same size, l decided l would try and skate in them after my daughter. She complained the wheels would not roll and when l tried to loosen them with a skate tool, they wouldn't loosen at all. l tried to skate in them as well and l almost fell on my face. l wasn't expecting the same quality as my professional skates, but at least hoped for skates that rolled safely!!

On their debut album, 1999's Something About Airplanes, Death Cab for Cutie proved there's a reason why Northwest music critics continue to sing their praises. The foursome combined the emo sounds of Modest Mouse and 764-Hero with an inventive, and often sly, sentimentality. It worked wonders, but still sounded a little too lo-fi. Luckily, on We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes the group has figured out all the production nuances that flawed that auspicious debut. The opening "Title Track" begins by sounding both crappy and shallow, but the band is merely pulling your leg; two minutes later, the tune expands into a gorgeous, well-produced masterpiece. The album never looks back. Ben Gibbard's songwriting continues to evolve--"Company Calls" segues into, what else, the slower "Company Calls Epilogue"--while the simple lyrics of "For What Reason" and "405" tell infectious stories that demand repeated listenings. Proof positive the Northwest is still churning out great music. --Jason Verlinde

The first Black Box Recorder album, 1998's England Made Me, was originally conceived by Auteurs and Baader Meinhof frontman Luke Haines as a typically baleful response to the cultural and political hysteria--respectively, Britpop and Tony Blair--then gripping Britain. Recorded with the help of former Jesus & Mary Chain drummer John Moore and singer Sarah Nixey, it did for Britpop roughly what the film Carrie did for the senior prom. The Facts of Life, the follow-up, maintains the withering glare but fixes it this time on the personal. The songs here obsess with unnerving clarity and mordant wit on the banal, cruel details of human relationships and are narrated perfectly by Nixey. Where her perfectly English-accented whisper infused England Made Me with the air of a bored aristocrat finding contemptuous amusement in the misery of others, on The Facts of Life she has located an edge of taunting viciousness all the more diabolical for being so understated. The tunes, as ever, are sweet and insidious, perhaps best thought of as Saint Etienne turned feral. Highlights on an album full of them are "English Motorway" and "The Art of Driving"--BBR triumphantly reclaiming the American rock & roll prerogative of the road song for their damp, claustrophobic homeland. The Facts of Life is a masterpiece. --Andrew Mueller
