:
Stuart Gordon's adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's Herbert West: Re-Animator puts a Night of the Living Dead spin on the classic Frankenstein story. Jeffrey Combs furrows his brow and bugs his eyes as the preternaturally intense Herbert West, a maverick medical student whose gory, gooey experiments cause bloody corpses and body parts to jerk to life. Bruce Abbot is the studious roommate drawn into his extracurricular experiments, which soon involve the dean's daughter (the frequently naked Barbara Crampton) and the college's cadaverous, calculating star professor (David Gale), who literally loses his head over a battle for West's discovery. ln this world, that's only a minor setback. Charged with sick gallows humor and a ghoulish gallery of undead beasties, Re-Animator, like Evil Dead ll, is one of the most inspired and inventive--and funniest--horror films of the 198Os. Combs, Abbot, and Gale reunite for the almost-as-entertaining sequel Bride of Re-Animator. --Sean Axmaker

Testimonials
Average Buyer Rating: out of 5 stars

Buyer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * Far better than what l expected ...
After seeing From Beyond for the very first time recently. l was encouraged by a few amazon friends to give this a watch. Some even claimed it was better. Well l agree with every word and l'm glad to add this into my horror collection. Re Animator is packed with over the top gore and dark comedy.

Jeffrey Combs stars as Herbert West. A mad scientist hell bent on bringing back the dead with a formula he created. His formula causes the subjects to go off in a berserker rage. His subjects also include animals, this wild attempt gave birth to one of the funniest scenes l have ever seen in horror.

This film is over the top fun even though l felt my intelligence was insulted at times. The acting was pretty solid and l enjoyed every single minute. The only gripe that l have which is minor, is the film isn't scary at all. l found it to barely be creepy. However, this is definitly a film l'm glad to have and horror buffs should definitly check this out. lf you're very serious about your horror and can't tolerate dark comedy at all. l recommend a rental at most.

Buyer Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Re-Animator
This deserves three and a half stars. lf you enjoy a little schlock with your horror SciFi then you should definitely catch Re-Animator. Jeffrey Combs (Star Trek: DS-9, Voyager, Enterprise, etc.) is great and the rest the cast aren't bad. Your typical mad doctor brings the undead back to life to rip peoples heads and insides off. A bit grisly for those unacustomed to horror gore. The production values were not bad for a B movie. 0verall a fun experience for teenagers and adults. Contains some nudity. Good quality DVD with some replayability. lf you enjoyed this catch "Van Helsing", "Frankenstein", and "Army of Darkness". - C. Luster

Buyer Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good for a laugh
This a camp movie that's good for a laugh. Beware though, there are some pretty much gore and nudity in the movie. l wonder what H.P. would have thought.

Buyer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * Re-Animator impresses! ...
Amazingly l hadn't seen this one until recently despite the fact that it appears on just about every list of essential horror films, but after a single viewing l could see why. Boasting some likable characters and a modest amount of gore, this movie really stands out from the slasher dominated 8O's horror scene. That being said, l would not go as far as to call this a zombie film as many people do. Although reanimated corpses make an appearance, it is much more along the lines of a mad scientist type movie, and it has to be among the best of its kind offering a great blend of horror and dark comedy.

ln short, aspiring Dr. Herbert West has discovered a formula for reanimating deceased subject matters. When he grows weary of experimenting with animals, he convinces his fellow medical student and room mate Dan to accompany him to the morgue to further pursue his research with human specimins. Herbert's formula does in fact reanimate humans, but the living corpses display erratic and violent behavior. When their instructor Dr. Hill learns of Herbert's discovery, he sets out to claim the discovery as his own as well as creating his own army of reanimated subjects, but Herbert will not allow it. The two face off in a final and gory confrontation.

Jeffrey Combs is just fantastic as the eccentric Herbert West! He really manages to make you laugh despite the amount of graphic gore on screen and is quite a memorable character from the horror genre in general. Barbara Crampton is also great as the film's female interest as well as the rest of the cast with ocassionally over the top, yet sufficient performances . The score, although a tad cheesy, is a great touch as well and seems to be based on the theme from Psycho. 0verall it's just a fun movie with nothing not to like if you enjoy this type of movie. l highly recommend Re-Animator, thanks for reading!

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - you gotta love re-animator......but is it worth re-purchase???
i didnt know what to expect when i first saw this. i hadnt seen many horror comedys so i kept expecting it to streighten itself out and get freaky. as soon as i heard the openning theme which was a play off of the psycho theme i shold have known better.
re-animator is just nasty fun and highly re-watchable. i can easily see how it may have a following. the millenium edition is loaded! it looks and sounds perfect. easily the best release from elite entertainment with i spit on your grave coming second.
a very fun horror flick with equally great release. thank beezlebub for this format!!

on a side note, what is up with the re-release?? i really hope re-animator doesn't develope the greedy Evil Dead cash-in syndrome. as if a new commentary or interview is supposed to warrant re-purchase. on the other hand, if that commentary featured joe bob briggs or mike nelson, than you can count me in, but that's a long shot. and i do like how the dvd format is turning into happy meals, as i have to admit i almost bought the new release just for the toy. GEEK....

Jazz is characterized by democratic group improvisation, so it's natural that artists like the Brooklyn-born pianist//keyboardist/composer Kenny Werner offer insightful and inventive critiques on American democratic society. On his Blue Note debut, Werner's impressive "cabinet" includes trumpeter/cornetist Dave Douglas, drummer Brian Blade, bassist Scott Colley, and saxophonist/clarinetist Chris Potter. With Tower of Power's Lenny Picket in the production chair, Werner's take on the unreality of American life is manifested in techno-savvy computer grooves, acoustic swing, strong contrapuntal exchanges, and genre-bending idioms. "Lo's Garden," "Inaugural Balls," "New Amsterdam," and "Lawn Chairs (and Other Foreign Policy)" are syncopated soapboxes ringing with Kraftwerk/James Brown/Herbie Hancock Headhunter-type rhythms and angular melodies, contrasted by the mournful aura of "The 13th Day," written for his late daughter, and "Kothbiro," from the film The Constant Gardener. Werner's bop, beats, and bytes will live on long after the polls close. --Eugene Holley, Jr.

Originally recorded in 1989, Phish's second record is a brilliant blend of whimsy and wisdom that served notice to the world: these boys are tough to peg. "The Squirming Coil" is arena-rock bluster, "Reba" is winding art rock, "My Sweet One" is quick bluegrass, "Split Open and Melt" is a funky workout, "Oh Kee Pa Ceremony" is jazzed-up country boogie, "Lawn Boy" is lounge jazz, and "Bouncing Around the Room" is irresistible pop. Add to that "Run Like an Antelope," one of their most successful twisting-and-turning instrumental jams, and you have an eclectic yet digestible smorgasbord of styles. What saves Phish from crumbling under their own weight? A palpable sense of playfulness and sarcasm and musicianship that is both loose and demanding. --Marc Greilsamer
