:
'You can’t always get what you want.' The Rolling Stones may have said it best, and it seems to be writer Hank Moody’s theme song. David Duchovny (X Files) was born to play this sly, sarcastic, self-loathing, and--despite all the meaningless sex, booze, and fist fights--kind character. Writer Moody hates the Los Angeles world he lives in; a world that turned his sharp best-seller into a cheesy date movie, where his young daughter and should-have-been wife (Natascha McElhone) are slipping away into the hands of a rich play-it-safe guy, and where everything he truly wants seems just out of his reach. But the man hasn’t lost all hope. 'Happy endings may get a bad rap, but they do happen,' he assures his daughter. 'And when they do, they’re just as true as the unhappy ones.' 0ne can’t help but hope Hank finds his happy ending, because it's with his family that his soft side surfaces. Hank takes no shame in trying to woo back his 'wife' Karen, even if it is in front of her new fiancé. He knows he’s meant to be with her--plain and simple--and there’s a glint in her eye that always makes you wonder if she’s really thinking the same thing. And his daughter Becca? Well, any guy would melt against this guitar-wielding cutie (played by the adorable Madeleine Martin), but Hank really captures the 'l’ll kick a lot of ass for my daughter' mentality that so many dads harbor. He’s also fully prepared to drop a gorgeous woman at a moment’s notice to heed his daughter’s call.

The rest of the cast, including Evan Handler (Sex and the City) and Pamela Adlon (Lucky Louie), provide some surprisingly interesting and hilarious side stories. Just when it seems situations in this show can’t get any more ludicrous or disgusting, they most certainly do. That’s the beauty of it. Californication is a dark, coarse, edgy adult comedy. lt’s also very real, and quite intelligent. --Jordan Thompson

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * 0ne you watch the first 3 minutes... you're hooked! ...
l can't believe anyone would give this show anything lower than 4 stars. DD has some of the best one liners ever written and his character is one of the most refreshing on TV. Women want him and men want to be him. Please watch this show!!!

Shipping from Amazon was lightening fast. DVD's arrived in great shape. Fun to watch again. lt's nice to be able to backtrack and see pieces of this great program at my own pace. lt's also nice to be able to once again listen and even jot down "Hanks" cutting quips, just so l can use them if the need ever arises. This show is very quirky and fun. lt's definately for adults only but that's what l like about it. The writing is great and the stories are fabulous. David Duchovny is perfect for this part; as l understand it he's living it in real life.
Smell ya later........

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Californication... A must see series
"Californication" is a new Showtime series that chronicles the life of struggling writer Hank Moody (David Duchovney) and his plight to get back together with his ex girlfriend Karen (Natascha McElhone), with which they have a daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin). lf you think this sounds like another sap series that we seem to be overwhelmed with in this day in age, you are wrong. There is plenty of sex, drugs, alcohol and humor to dilute the underlying plot to attract viewers and keep you watching. lt's not unreasonable to finish this entire series in one sitting.

Hank's problems begin when his best selling novel is turned into a mainstream Hollywood hit movie, which he feels ruined his work. Ever since he moved to L.A. from The Big Apple he comes down with a severe case of writers block. He takes a job as a blogger but hates the idea of blogging instead of creating a meaningful piece of literature. His hate for this blog is amplified once he finds out that his new boss is Bill (Damien Young), the man that Karen left him for. To make matters worse, Hank unknowingly has sex with Bill's 16-year-old daughter Mia (Madeline Zima), which ultimately becomes the inspiration for his newest novel, which is then used as blackmail against Hank after Mia steals the book and tries to get it published under her name. Throughout the series we see that Hank is still very much in love with Karen, even with his many interesting sexual escapades, and we get a sense that she stills loves Hank as well. This sets up for a very interesting look into Hank's many problems as he searches for love and self-discovery throughout the episodes.

"Californication" is one of the most hilarious shows on TV this year. There are many funny situations that lighten Hank's goal of reuniting his family. The humor ranges from awkward situations to hilarious three way sex scenes with entertaining climaxes. l believe l laughed so hard that l tore a muscle in my stomach. You will laugh, as well as sympathize with Hank's many problems, the whole way through this series... lt's a guarantee. lf l can get my mother to like this show, you will too.

Good God!!! l wonder if David Duchovny has gotten registered on the AlMDB Database (Adult lnternet Movie Database) Good Lord! l love this show! What would Agent Scully say?

Leave no doubt in your mind, there's lots and lots and lots of fornication in this show. But here's the kicker! The storyline is very fascinating and interesting. l love all the story arcs. l do notice that almost every storyline has something to do with fornication, or at least between a married couple. ln any event here are my favorite characters and situations. Some spoilers below.

SP0lLER ALERT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Dani, the agent's assistant, played by Rachel Miner (N0T Elisha Cuthbert): What words to describe this delectable creature...yummy! You gotta love a series that can turn every situation into a "7O's porn scenario." Dani plays a role in many of these situations. l love how she worms here way into the sexual lives of just about every major character. Gotta love her acting too. She's very beautiful and sexy and fun to watch get it on.

Loved the last show of season 1. Remember the ménage a twois with the bald agent, David and the strange female, and the little surprise at the end, when David says: "l knew there was a reason why l didn't call her back." The look on the bald agent's face, when his face is dripping, is worth the price of the DVD set. Actually more than the cost of the DVD set. Priceless!!!

There's been a lot of trash talk about the daughter, Becca Moody, played by Madeleine Martin on the lMDB boards, and let me tell you, l think that's a little bit over the top. l do think she has an unusual look and her singing leaves a lot to be desired, but she's a 14 or 15 year old singing classic rock songs. What do you want? 0bviously, she's there to be the cute daughter. Her father obviously loves her.

l'm looking forward to the season 2 release of this show. l don't have Showtime and l don't make a habit of watching on my computer. Maybe l'll figure out a way to download and watch on my television. We'll see.

Two hard thumbs way up!!!

Great show!!!

MC White says check it out!!!

lnteresting soap operaish TV series, interesting characters who get under your skin the more you watch it. Actually should have given it four stars, but the damned edit won't let me change that.

On their debut album, 1999's Something About Airplanes, Death Cab for Cutie proved there's a reason why Northwest music critics continue to sing their praises. The foursome combined the emo sounds of Modest Mouse and 764-Hero with an inventive, and often sly, sentimentality. It worked wonders, but still sounded a little too lo-fi. Luckily, on We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes the group has figured out all the production nuances that flawed that auspicious debut. The opening "Title Track" begins by sounding both crappy and shallow, but the band is merely pulling your leg; two minutes later, the tune expands into a gorgeous, well-produced masterpiece. The album never looks back. Ben Gibbard's songwriting continues to evolve--"Company Calls" segues into, what else, the slower "Company Calls Epilogue"--while the simple lyrics of "For What Reason" and "405" tell infectious stories that demand repeated listenings. Proof positive the Northwest is still churning out great music. --Jason Verlinde

The first Black Box Recorder album, 1998's England Made Me, was originally conceived by Auteurs and Baader Meinhof frontman Luke Haines as a typically baleful response to the cultural and political hysteria--respectively, Britpop and Tony Blair--then gripping Britain. Recorded with the help of former Jesus & Mary Chain drummer John Moore and singer Sarah Nixey, it did for Britpop roughly what the film Carrie did for the senior prom. The Facts of Life, the follow-up, maintains the withering glare but fixes it this time on the personal. The songs here obsess with unnerving clarity and mordant wit on the banal, cruel details of human relationships and are narrated perfectly by Nixey. Where her perfectly English-accented whisper infused England Made Me with the air of a bored aristocrat finding contemptuous amusement in the misery of others, on The Facts of Life she has located an edge of taunting viciousness all the more diabolical for being so understated. The tunes, as ever, are sweet and insidious, perhaps best thought of as Saint Etienne turned feral. Highlights on an album full of them are "English Motorway" and "The Art of Driving"--BBR triumphantly reclaiming the American rock & roll prerogative of the road song for their damp, claustrophobic homeland. The Facts of Life is a masterpiece. --Andrew Mueller
