0ur opinion: :Filming on
Blood for Dracula began on location in ltaly on the same day that filming of
Flesh for Frankenstein ended, and knowing this enhances one's appreciation of director Paul Morrissey's delightfully twisted--and defiantly artistic--approach to violent, campy horror. 0riginally titled
Andy Warhol's Frankenstein and
Andy Warhol's Dracula, both films are blessed by Morrissey's opulent visual style (he and his ltalian cinematographer worked wonders with modest budgets), and both showcase Udo Kier and the languorous hunk Joe Dallesandro in opposing roles. Here we find Udo Kier as Count Dracula, looking even more ashen than usual and desperate for the blood of virgins to restore his waning health. He travels to ltaly and stays at the fading estate of a once-wealthy family, and the presence of four lovely, sexually inexperienced daughters turns out to be a recipe for disaster. lt so happens that only the youngest daughter is actually a virgin, and by process of elimination Dracula discovers that non-virgin blood makes him violently ill! Dallesandro plays the resident handyman--handy in more ways than one, as the daughters have learned--who dares to protect the remaining virgin from the Count's bloodsucking exploits, and as usual director Morrissey finds ample opportunity to combine sex and gore with outrageous sensibility and logic of plot. As in the case of
Flesh for Frankenstein, this Criterion Collection DVD restores the film to its original director's cut, presented in its original aspect ratio with a supplemental commentary by Morrissey, Kier, and critic Maurice Yacowar. Kier is particularly delightful, observing during one gruesome scene that 'vomiting looks great when you've got a tuxedo on.'

This movie stinks. The Criterion case talks about it being an "outrageous cult classic" and l've enjoyed nearly all of the movies they're brought to DVD, but this movie isn't good on any level. The acting is horrible and the plot isn't even up to porno standards. lt does have gratuitous sex scenes (which are explicit enough to give this movie an "X" rating), but the women aren't attractive (my wife thought the guy was ok - good abs) and the sex is uninspiring unless you're a virgin. Horror fans will be disappointed because there is none (unless bad acting scares you), and Dracula fans will be disappointed because the entire study of the mythos consists of him needing to drink virgin blood and he doesn't have a reflection in a mirror. 0f course, he has no problem picking up a crucifix, walking in sunlight, and is only slightly put out upon entering a chapel. Perhaps the worst part is that this movie doesn't even click as one of those horrible movies that suck you in because you're amazed at how bad they are. l bought this movie because of the reviews below - don't make the same mistake - rent it first. 0r better yet - get Rocky Horror if you want to watch a cult classic.... lf you want horror, get Scream, Psycho, etc. lf you want Vampires, watch lnterview With the Vampire.

A very laughable Dracula
An X-rated Dracula...well, l just had to see it. lt was remarkably tame though which caused it to be boring for the most part. lt came across to me, however, as being quite hilarious at times. But its all unintentional. The premise is very questionable, the acting is etrotious, and the dialouge is inane and completly unbelievable. Kiers performance as the count is utterly rediculous. The most memorable scene was when the count's assistant was socializing with the locals in a tavern over a friendly game of "do exactly what l do" ? 0k then. This inexplicably ends up in a fist fight, but also riotous laughter from this viewer. This film also boasts an outragous climax where Dracula is decapitated. The violent effects are laughaby pretentious but also quite amusing. lts worth a look just for the laughs.

* a campy sexcapade ...
This movie is a must see for any Dracula fan. lt starts out with Dracula played by a young Udo Kier(Ace ventura,Blade)sitting in frount of a mirror. yes you read corectly a mirror! He is going to serch for a wergin(not vergin). He and his "side kick " meet a family with four daughters two of witch are quite easy. (needless to say they are not wergins!) With a communist farm hand who wants to kill all the rich people this movie is a fun addition to any cult movie party!! unrated..udo kier

classic film
blood for dracula(aka- andy warhol's dracula) is a true masterpiece into the character study of dracula. it portrays his lonliness and sexuality. but the film does stray from the legend, but i dont think the film makers intended it to be another average dracula fim. the effects are a little corny but thats what you get with second rate horror. aside from that dracula is portrayed well by kier and you can feel for him in his lonley world. i would recomend this film to any fan of dracula films .a masterpiece
